RPM Extended Target Support . . .

What's new in RPMxt (eXtended Target)?

Support for extended targets, hence the name , but with a lot of flexibility built-in.

Although included, legacy templates and libraries do not yet support eXtended Targets. Legacy support is in development and should be available soon.

There's enough flexibility built into this release that you can even create your own targets, if you have the need, with ease. In addition this release will allow you to intercept the action before and after target generation which opens up all kinds of possibilities.

A developer callback method is included so you can run any routine that's local to the report or any procedure that is available. This is accessible from the destination dialogs as well as the developer procedure.

Page ranges, as has always been included in RPM, are supported for the extended targets. Also included is the option to restrict range support for individual targets.

Programmatic forced target generation support is provided so that targets are processed immediately after the report has completed and before the user has access.

Global setup for target button text and icon as well as ability to add tool tips.

Empty Report support, with several options:

  • Print one, or more, detail bands
  • Print a built-in blank detail band
  • Call embedded source
  • Ignore & Return (for Shuffle Chained Report use only)

Also included with this release is support for LOCAL compiles and CHM (compiled HTML help).

Extended targets are not supplied with RPM. Extended target generators are provided by SoftVelocity and other 3rd Party vendors and are displayed here solely for demonstration purposes. RPM provides TEXT export, as it always has, but not yet displayed as a target on the pre-destination dialog.

Pre-destination Dialog

Tab sheet becomes an empty panel if any extended target is selected. If page ranges are enabled on this report then a disabled range option is displayed on this dialog, as shown. If ranges are not supported then the panel is blank.

Why a disabled range option? This is the pre-destination displayed before the report is run and a page count doesn't yet exist ... nor have any pages been marked!

But why display it at all? Just for consistency since if you allow ranges from preview the range option will be available there. If you do not allow page ranges the option will not be displayed on either dialog.

Extended targets can be turned off if you do not want them on the pre-destination dialog.

If an extended target is selected then that target is generated and the report is done! This is fairly obvious since the printer options, preview and print radio buttons and other controls are no longer available. OK, Cancel and Help buttons remain accessible.

Final Destination Dialog

As with pre-destination dialog if any extended target is selected the tab sheet is disabled and "Print & Remain" button is hidden. Extended targets always return to this dialog when completed.
